In 2000 there was significant controversy about who was to produce the chips. Only weeks before BARGE the previous years NLHE winner, John Harkness, posted to the BARGE ML that he hadn't had time to do the chips yet but he should be able to finish them close to BARGE. After it became apparent that wouldn't be sufficient time John announced that he would deliver the chips around Christmas. He showed images of nuts at the BARGE dinner that he was going to use on the chips. Some time later John announced that he wasn't interested in producing the chips.
In late 2000/early 2001 a group of BARGErs lead by Randy Collack attempted to contact the 2000 NLHE tourney winner Jeff Bartoszewicz to see if he needed any help producing chips. After not receiving replies to their emails the BARGE Chip Committee (BCC) was born. They produced chips for the 2001 BARGE. Some of those chips were intended to make up for those missing at the 2000 BARGE. Since they were distributed at the 2001 BARGE they are pictured there.
In order to fill the void at the 2000 BARGE Ken Kubey produced several plastic BARGE chips copied from the 2000 BARGE pin designed by Ernst-Dieter "ADBJupiler" Martin and Patrick Milligan.
