Home for EMBARGO 2012 will be at the Venetian on the beautiful Las Vegas Strip.
EMBARGO is the Extraordinary Mid-winter Big Annual Rec.Gambling Outing (also known as "winter BARGE" or "mini-BARGE). This is our second attempt at an off-season Las Vegas complement to the long-running BARGE event.
The official events for EMBARGO 2012 will begin on January 26 and end on January 28. It is possible that some of the details of the events will change between now and the opening of registration.
(*) The Dealer's Choice game is just that, but it's not complete anarchy. Rules for the games that may be called in the Dealer's Choice event are available.
(**) For those few of you who may not know the rules to casino Chowaha, it's high only, must use both hole cards from your hand, and the board is dealt out as Chowaha boards are usually dealt.
Note, our host casino has asked us to pay the portion of the entry fee that goes to the prize pool on site at the time of the event. Therefore, as part of the registration process, you will only be charged for the house fee and toke pool for each event. Remember to bring enough cash to pay for the balance of the buy-in to the beginning of the event!
A generic set of BARGE tournament structures is available. The Dealer's choice and Chowaha tournaments will be dealt using the generic limit structure. The PLO/8 event will be dealt using the generic pot-limit structure.
Prize payouts will depend on entrants and will use the new BARGE tournament payout table.
The Venetian will have rooms available at their poker room rate, $129 weekdays, $179 weekends. Less expensive accomodations may be found within easy walking distance at Casino Royale, Treasure Island, and other venues. Even better deals are available to those with automotive transportation. We recommend that those commuting to EMBARGO by car avail themselves of the Palazzo parking lot, conveniently located off of Spring Mountain Blvd..
EMBARGO 2012 registration is now closed.
Everyone who registers for EMBARGO must pay a $15.00 registration fee.
In order to join the waiting list for any tournament(s), you MUST prepay all registration and entry fees. If you are unable to participate, refunds will be made following EMBARGO. You may not join the waiting list for a tournament after registration closes.
The waiting list will be cleared as spaces become available in the order you have signed up, until the start of EMBARGO. After the start of EMBARGO waiting lists will be cleared at 30 minutes prior to the start of each tournament. You must be present at that time to receive a seat if one is available.
In conjunction with this policy, we'll accept cancellations of tournament entries, in person, up until one hour before a tournament. If the cancellation is done via e-mail it must be received at least 24 hours prior to the tournament and is subject to having been received in time by the organizers. In the event of connectivity problems we may not be able to read the e-mail.
Refunds for canceled seats are subject to our being able to resell your seat to someone on the wait list.
In our never-ending quest to simplify the registration process (for the organizers, if not for you) registrations must be paid for at registration time or they will not be accepted. Visa and Mastercard are the preferred payment mechanisms.
We are prepared to accept alternate forms of payment please send a check or money order payable to BARGE to:
Michael Patterson
4110 SE Hawthorne Blvd
PMB #432
Portland OR, 97214
This will delay your registration and you may find yourself on a tournament wait list.
You can also send your credit card number to the above address, but please be aware that the only interface we have to our credit card processor involves an on-line connection so you may as well do it yourself.
Anyone who signs up online is welcome to attend EMBARGO. The organizers reserve the right to deny participation in any or all EMBARGO events to anyone, at their discretion. Registrations must be performed online and by the registrant personally (no third-party registrations). An exception is made for Significant Others (although we have no Significant Other events on the calendar for EMBARGO this year.)
A registration is to be considered an exclusive agreement between the registrant and the EMBARGO Organizers, and may not be assigned to another party without their prior agreement.
Should any event (or all events) associated with EMBARGO be canceled, EMBARGO's limitation of liability is the amount of the fee paid for the canceled event. In no case will the registration fee be refunded as it covers costs we incur at the time of registration.
All registrations are final. Cancellations and additions to your EMBARGO registration will be done through the close of registration and are subject to a non-refundable $15.00 fee. Refunds for cancellations after the close of registration are at the sole discretion of the EMBARGO organizers. In no case will the $15.00 registration fee be refunded. No refunds will be issued until February 2012.
Payment of the BARGE registration fee entitles the payee to a one-year membership in the BARGE organization. Payment of the EMBARGO registration fee does not count toward BARGE membership in whole or in part.
All fees mentioned are used to cover expenses or are placed into the BARGE fund.
Please bring all charge disputes to the attention of the organizers prior to contacting your bank. Anyone who files a dispute with a bank prior to trying to resolve the problem with the organizers will be barred from attending this or any future EMBARGO.
The appropriate venue for discussions about EMBARGO are the BARGE and BARGE-announce mailing lists. Everyone who is registering for or is planning to register for EMBARGO should be on the BARGE-announce mailing list. This list is low volume and is used for official notifications by the BARGE and EMBARGO organizers. To subscribe to this list go to http://www.barge.org/mailman/listinfo/barge-announce.
The other list is for general discussions about BARGE or EMBARGO, BARGE members, topics peripheral to the lives of BARGE members, stray thoughts that randomly occur to BARGE members... . This list is decidedly not low volume, and subscribers will be exposed to strongly held opinions with which they do not agree. http://www.barge.org/mailman/listinfo/barge.
All EMBARGO events are non-smoking.
EMBARGO is being organized by the same people who bring you BARGE: Michael "mickdog" Patterson, Nick Christenson, and Bree Goldman, with more than occasional advice and emergency help from Peter Secor and Chuck Weinstock, BARGE organizers, emeritus. We also wish to give a "shout out" to BARGE elder statesman and former organizer, Mike Zimmers.
